Words to live by.....

  • Detail oriented is a key component to the success of all painters.  Details tell the story. Details show up in the end of every project.  Read the fine print. Read and follow the instructions.
  • Neat & clean are two words that all contractors should live by on the job. This is something that often goes unnoticed at the job site but is seen by all when it is not followed. Run a tight ship.
  • Time awareness is key to moving projects along.  Setting goals with project schedules and meeting those marks could be the difference between landing jobs in the future or not.  Be on time when you schedule meetings and appointments.
  • Follow thru:  Do what you say and say what you do.  There is nothing more important to clients than your word.  Keep your word. Communicate even when you feel you are over communicating.
  • Calculate what it costs you to operate your business successfully and what makes you comfortable at the end of the day.  Once you have established that number do not settle for less.  That number may cause you to lose clients.  That's ok!  You now have to build value in yourself, in your company, in your skill, in your process and in your reputation. Value is a how other preceive you. This will overcome price everytime.
  • Look around at who you hired.  Go ahead. Take a look.  The personnel you bring to the job site is a direct reflection of you as a business owner, a painter and a man. Pay attention to how your workers dress, how they speak and how they carry themselves. They are around your peers, your clients and your competition.  It's important.
  • Leftover paint following a DIY project is a good thing.  Make sure you clean the rim of the can and remove dried paint to ensure the lid closes fully and properly. Also, store the can in a basement or a cool area to help prolong the life of the paint.  Touch ups will be needed from the normal wear and tear of daily living.  Paint isn't cheap.
